UKRAINE

Kyiv, is the capital and largest city of Ukraine, located in the north central part of the country on the Dnieper River. The population in July 2015 was 2,887,974, making Kiev the 7th most populous city in Europe.

The city's name is said to derive from the name of Kyi, one of its four legendary founders. During its history, Kyiv, one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe, passed through several stages of great prominence and relative obscurity. The city probably existed as a commercial centre as early as the 5th century.

  1. Kharkiv - is the second-largest city in Ukraine. Located in the north-east of the country and has a population of about 1.5 million people. Presently, Kharkiv operates as a major cultural, scientific, educational, transport and industrial centre of Ukraine, with 60 scientific institutes, 30 higher education universities and institutions, 6 museums, 7 theatres and 80 libraries.
  2. Odessa - is the third most populous city of Ukraine and a major seaport and transportation hub located on the northwestern shore of the Black Sea.
  3. Lviv - the largest city in western Ukraine and the seventh largest city in the country overall, is one of the main cultural centres of Ukraine.

GEORGIA

Tbilisi, the capital, is the largest city in Georgia. Commonly known by its former name Tiflis, and often mispronounced as Tiblisi, is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of roughly 1.5 million inhabitants. Founded in the 5th century by the monarch of Georgia's ancient precursor the Kingdom of Iberia, Tbilisi has since served, with intermissions, as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics.

  1. Batumi - located on the coast of the Black Sea in the country's southwest. Nizhniy Novgorod, Novosibirsk and Omsk.
  2. Kutaisi - is the legislative capital of Georgia, and its third largest city. Situated 221 kilometres (137 miles) west of Tbilisi, it is the capital of the western region of Imereti.
